As I write this newsletter, I am curled up in a chair by my front window, enjoying an amazingly sunny day.

The middle of February brought the end of my winter schedule. And as my friends moved on to the Western tour, I will be off to Australia. I have been invited to speak at the Western Australia Tarot Conference. This is their second year, and I am excited about attending! Though not so happy about the twenty-five hours of flight time. Learn About: Counterfeit Tarot Decks

As you know I always bring my tarot cards and witchy goodies to every event. I was at the Hamilton Psychic and Crystal Fair this past weekend and I was asked why my cards were more expensive than the ones seen online. This was a wonderful opportunity to talk about the unscrupulous people who counterfeit tarot decks. 

So, what is a counterfeit deck? Well, this is a maddening happening in our community. First off, counterfeit anything is wrong!! In the tarot community, it means that the creators of the decks, the artists and the authors are not being paid for their hard work. The process of creating a deck takes time; it can take years. Then, getting them to the publisher and polished up, printed, advertised, and distributed is a long and involved process. Don’t these people deserve to be compensated?? If you have ever seen a counterfeit deck, it is obvious. So, here are some things to look for:

Deck size: Most counterfeit decks are much smaller than their legitimate counterparts.

Box: Most boxes on these decks are flimsy tuck boxes, although there are legitimate decks with tuck boxes. See the point above.

Book: Or lack of one. Counterfeit decks usually have a QR code on the box and no book.

Cardstock: This is more difficult to see when you see a deck online. Trust me, these decks are not well made. It is the cheapest possible cardstock they can find.

Images: The images on counterfeit decks are usually cloudy or out of focus. This is because the images are not from the artist but a picture or photocopy of the authentic cards.

These are just a few of the ways to know if the deck you have is genuine. A genuine, authentic reader will always have genuine, authentic cards.
